So after talking with a few people and wondering myself about the care I received from the local IHC clinic I decided it would be best to visit an Orthopedic Surgeon to make sure everything was fine and that the leg will heal properly.
On Friday, I went and visited the Orthopedic and I knew something was wrong when the nurse who was looking up my x-rays said, after she got them pulled up, “That boot is all they recommended for you?”
Then the doctor came in, took a look at the x-rays, looked at my boot, looked at the x-rays again and said, “A boot would not be my recommendation at all.” He recommended surgery so I wouldn’t have any complications down the road. He said with the seriousness of the break and how much it is displaced, plus the fact that the bone is now a little shorter than it should be, he pretty much guaranteed that I will have ankle problems down the road. So I decided on getting the surgery to make sure everything will be ok down the road.
So on Tuesday, I went in and got it taken care of. I guess it took a little longer than they thought it would, it took about an hour and thirty minutes. I guess they also had to use some metal wire in there as well. However, the doctor told Stephanie that everything went very well and I should have a full recovery.
The worst part was after I woke up, it took me about five hours to recover from whatever frekin anesthetic they gave me. I was so sick, and nauseous, dizzy, and had a huge headache I couldn’t see strait. Finally about 4:30pm I threw-up and everything seemed to go away enough so we told the nurse that we were going home.
Recovery has been long and slow, I finally stopped taking the Lortab early today and since then I feel so much better. I think the Lortab was making me continue to be dizzy and nauseous. The extreme pain has mostly gone away and now I just have to sit so I am comfortable! Hopefully tomorrow I will really start feeling better so I can get up and go downstairs and do something as opposed to just laying in bed.
